Small update

Eerst als antwoord op jullie reacties:

@Paul: het verkeer is hier vrij slecht, het is niet zo chaotisch als Istanbul, maar de mensen houden zich net zo slecht aan de regels, die ook niet worden gehandhaafd. Sterker nog, er zijn niet eens maximum snelheden op 95% van de wegen hier. Daarnaast draagt niemand een veiligheidsgordel en vinden mensen het prima om achter het stuur te gaan zitten na 6 bier gedronken te hebben...

@Emmanuel: ondanks dat ik geen korting krijg als Exxon werknemer, is de benzine hier toch erg goedkoop: €2.80 per gallon, oftewel €0.74 per liter

So let's continue in English now.. last weekend I went to Quetzaltenango, or Xela as they call it usually, with all the other trainees from "my AIESEC department" and a few Guatemalans. For here it suffices to say that we had a great time and I really enjoyed seeing the city and the surrounding landscape.

Today I was at a gas station and learned how everything works there, from the fuelling to the cashier to the sales of food. Tomorrow we (me and two other new employees) will learn more about the inventory keeping and other administrative tasks. We will go there on Wednesday as well, so I guess that - despite the fact that they explain everything in Spanish - I will by then have a pretty good idea of how everything works and I guess that will be useful while performing the back office function that I have at the office.

The weather
It's quite strange here. Right now, we are in the raining season (which is the only seasons next to the non-raining season), but it's still 100 times better than the Dutch raining season (autumn). The sun shines practically all day and the temperature is between 18 in the morning and 25 in the afternoon, so it's never too warm and never too cold. The reason why it's called raining season is that in about half of the afternoons it starts raining really really heavily, being exposed for 15 seconds is enough to get you soaking wet. But if you make sure you're inside around that time you're fine, but it did prevent us from going to lunch (or returning to work) at our usual times and not all roads can process the water very easily. But still, this weather is great, and it's gonna be even better from October onwards.
